camoshark's News

Wait... where did this come from though? Ô.Ô

Well this is a bit embarassing... I should probably post something then, maybe even publish something new, for a change?

I guess it's time for an Impromtu Q&A!

Alright seriously, where've you been?

I haven't really been active here recently for the simple reason that I haven't really made much in all that time that appeals to this channel. I've obviously been doing lots of IRL stuff, but mostly things of a personnal nature, or otherwise unrelated with music. Which brings me to my next point...

What about music? You haven't stopped music altogether, have you? D:

Of course not! In fact, I've actually just managed to obtain a fairly decent recording of the thing that's taking the most of my time. As many of you may already know, I'm the musical director of a drum corps called Les Ambassadeurs de la Montérégie (The Montérégie Ambassadors), which commissions a whole 15-minute opus from me each year. This is something that takes a lot of planning and effort, but I find it to be very rewarding, so I dedicate a lot of my time to it.

As a celebration of today's amazing milestone, I've decided to upload it here!

Additionally, I have very recently acquired an arranging gig with the Orchestre de Jeux Vidéo (Video Game Orchestra), for which I have been playing with for the past few years. No recordings yet, but I'm very excited to share what I'll be doing for them with you!

Until then, you can have a listen to one of our latest show's songs:

Future stuff?

I'm always working on something, and a few of said projects are due to be released soon (TM) , so be sure to keep an eye out in the following weeks!

I'm afraid that's all for today folks, hope this at least clarifies a few questions people might've had, and I hope to be able to share more of the stuff I'm doing IRL soon enough!

Thanks again for your amazing support, and here's to another 200!

Cheers

NGADM 2012

Posted by camoshark - December 29th, 2014

This is mostly here to get rid of the mile-long NGADM post I did a while back, but I thought I'd also let you guys know what's up.

Been doing lots of IRL stuff, a surprising bit of it actually having to do with music. I've been gigging left and right, doing small stuff here and there, and obviously being heavily involved in the drum corps I direct; but most of all, I've been involved with the Video Game Orchestra (VGO) and the Film Music Wind Orchestra (FMWO), and we did two enchanting sold-out nights playing a combination of Final Fantasy and Star Wars music.

Here's an excerpt of said shows:

(I'm the left-most trumpet player, if anyone's asking)

In other news, I've also been pretty involved with the Super Smash Bros. fan arrangement album Harmony of Heroes, which has also had resounding success throughout the past months, being cited by such websites as Kotaku and Nintendo Insider as "as good as the game itself". I've contributed one track which I'm fairly proud of in retrospect, which can be heard right here!

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/589199

They also very recently released its extension called Harmony of Heroes: Final Smash, for which I've also contributed a track for.

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/599194

Other than that, I'm currently in the midst of recording instruments for a few albums, one of which is for NG's own @newhansen ! I'm very glad to once again be collaborating with him, and I'm excited to be able to show you the content we're putting up. For those who don't already know, we've partnered a few times in the past to create some pretty interesting tracks, one of which recently won 2nd place for Halloween 2014 right here!

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/558170

Anyways, it's getting pretty late here, and I really just wanted to give you guys a quick update, and also just to keep things from stagnating as they seem to with me. Sorry I'm not very good with these things! ^^'

Hope you guys had a happy Holiday Season, and I'll be seeing you guys in 2015!

Cheers,

-Sam

NGADM 2013

NGADM 2012

Posted by camoshark - July 9th, 2014

Oh hey, looks like I haven't written anything here in quite some time... Whoops?

I'm not exactly sure how many people really still come and drop by here this time around, considering how inactive I've been, but suffice to say that whoever still is, you're more dedicated than I ever will be. <.<

So the first question that many of you have asked is if I'll be re-entering the NGADM this year, and I'm glad to say that YES, I will be, but I'll be trying out something a bit different this year and will be pairing up with one of my good friends, SkyeWintrest, and will most likely be experimenting with a lot of genres I haven't touched yet, but have been interested in for some time now. More on that soon.

With that out of the way, here's as much of an update on my life as I'm willing to share right now.

Life's been giving me a lot of ups and downs lately, and although I've been working hard with samulis with Versilian Studios, life's just gotten too hectic for me in the past few months to produce any new songs, nor give any time to my ongoing projects (other than what I was already engaged in). Top to that a pretty bad depression and anguish, and you've got a crippling mindset that's prevented me from doing all of this.

Now you'll be happy to know that I'm out of the worst of all of this, have managed to remove or recover from most of the bad stuff in my life, but there's still a long way to go before I get back to producing as often as I did in the past few years.

For the NGADM though, I'll be doing my best, and collaborating with Skye will hopefuly help with the creative process. It has always been my motto to give my all for these competitons, and I don't plan on making this year any different, whatever happens.

Other than that, I've been away for about a week to perform with the drum & bugle corps I teach/arrange for, and you'll be glad to know that we did very well! We unfortunately didn't manage to play at one of the local DCI competitions (as exhibition, not competiton) due to organisational issues on their side, but we were hosted by the Bluecoats, currently third in the World-Class leaderboards, and they personally congratulated us for our "great sound" and "excellent arrangements", so I can say I'm elated to have received such high praise from them.

I'll also be heading off next week for an entire week of recording with samulis in order to get our next season of VI's ready at Versilian Studios. I am very excited by this news, as this'll mark the first time I meetup with him in person, but also because this company is a passion project for the both of us, and having access to the equipment/instruments to which we'll have access to is simply amazing!

Don't forget to check out our website for updates regarding this.

And lastly, before I end this, because I haven't been very good at keeping contact with my audience, I wanted to ask you, the reader, to give me a bit insight as to how the last few months have been going for you.

It can be a simple mention that things are going good, but I like to know what people have been up to, especially you guys! :P

Anyways, that's it for me tonight, hope this long-ass post will excuse my lack of update/songs in the past few months (it probably won't), and I hope to rectify that in the coming weeks, especially with the NGADM coming quickly!

Thanks again for reading, and talk to you soon!

Hey guys, I know I just posted a big update just a few days ago, but I wanted to make two quick announcements!

The first of these announcements is my involvement in the Harmony of Heroes fan-project, which is garnering a lot of media and popular attention with the release of it's first trailer, which can be seen right here.

The first track shown in the trailer is the first of many collaborative tracks, this one with @Step. I'm really glad how this one turned out, and I hope this gets you guys pumped for what is sure to be a VERY exciting project!

The other announcement is that I finally managed to convince one of my long-time friends, Manuemman, to join this site, so I'd like to wish him a warm welcome to Newgrounds' community, and I recommend you guys go check out his awesome stuff (once he actually takes the time to upload them).

Expect a couple of collaborations with him in the comming months, including use of his awesome guitar skills (he's a graduate in Jazz Guitar)!

That's all for now, and probably this year, so I hope you've all had a great year, and I'll be seeing you guys in 2014!

Man is this post overdue. Terribly sorry about that, I'm just rarely in the mood to write long texts, and since this post is particularly personal, I didn't want to screw it up. Again, sorry for the delay.

Also, it's fairly late here, so I don't know how far I'll be able to go, but I decided that I had waited long enough, and that with the year ending, this would be a good time to do this.

Anyways, enough delaying, let's get this started!

Alright, so first-off, I'd like to state that I still find it incredible that over a HUNDRED people throughout the world would even be remotely interested in my work, let-alone be invested enough into it to want to keep track of my innane ramblings, random thoughts and tedious experiments. I'm still under the impression that there are actually only eight or nine people that actually follow me, and that the rest of you are all alternate accounts of said group just to humour me. <.<

Nonetheless, however the number of people that may truly exist here, I cannot express the amount of gratitude I have towards you guys for having supported me along the way. YOU (yes, you there, reading this right now) are the one that keeps me going. YOU are the reason I've tried my best to better myself with every song I've done. YOU are the reason I've tried my best (not always succeeding) to produce content on as regular of a basis as my schedule can afford. And most of all, YOU are the reason I'm still doing this to this day.

Story time, so better get confortable:

Once upon a time, some kid was born in the ouskirts of a small rural village in the northern regions of Québec, Canada. He grew up in a house between a farm and a ranch and had to take an hour-long bus ride to the nearest primary school, so needless to say, he was pretty far away from any large amount of people, and so didn't make a lot of friends. In fact, starting from second grade to middle-school, he had to move once or twice a year because of his father's job, thus eliminating any chance for long-lasting relationships.

Now this might have driven a lot of people mad (and it probably did for him too), but for him, it suited him, since he hadn't much interest in talking with others anyways. He had found many things to learn of, mostly astronomy, minerology, chemistry, but the thing that stood out the most for him was music. It had always been present in his entourage, since his father was a regularaly gigging musician and had been a judge in the Canadian DCI competitons. Before even starting to learn the piano, he started reading on music theory and taking courses on rhythm with his father whenever he had the chance.

By the time he had reached middle-school, he had been taking piano courses for five years and had already learned sight-reading, solfegio and ear-transcription. Unfortunately, the school he went to didn't take piano as a main instrument, so he had to change to another instrument. He chose the trumpet on a hunch, and to this day it's still his main instrument, so he most likely did the right call. He also started taking regular latin drum courses with his father, which developed his passion for exotic music and cultures.

Unfortunately, starting playing new instruments and being in a crowded class that progressed slowly was getting harder and harder to satisfy his need to express his creativity, so he tried his best to get the most he could out of the experience, enrolling in competitions and intensive band camps, joining many different music groups and bands and playing anywhere he could. He eventually started catching on that the mere act of interpreting the music wasn't enough anymore to satisfy his need to creatively express himself.

And so, in 2007, started the crazy journey that led him to where he is today. He got a hold of his father's old laptop, which had an ANCIENT version of a notation software, Sibelius 1.4, and with the technological and theoretical resources he had gained through the years, taught himself to use the program and jot down in the best of his abilities the ideas he had in his head. This idea eventually became Battle of the Heroes, the first track he ever made, and which is still up to this day.

What drew him here initially was the idea that, for once, he had the opportunity to share the scene with what he then believed to be the cream of the music writers, the top-charters. The ones who got THOUSANDS of fanmail per day and had to resort to using a secretary to file it all. He never had even thought of the mere idea of reaching that level, but for once this idea seemed to have the opportunity to become MORE, almost seeming to be right there, waiting for you to seize it. From that day on, I knew I had a clear goal, I finally knew what I wanted to do.

The rest of this story and my experience with NG might be continued in my bicentennial special, but until then, this is where the story that lead to my passion for composition ends. My purpose hasn't changed since, although it might have deformed over the years, changing shape to better fit my still obscure destiny. But with all this uncertainty, there is at least something clear: my resolve to create will only grow as time passes.

In any case, I'd like to continue for hours on like I've been up to now, but it's 4AM here and I can barely type, so this'll have to do for now. I'd like to once again personally thank every single one of you for supporting me in my crazy endeavours, and if you've managed to read all the way through, award you the honorary title of supreme-reader. May you use your newfound powers wisely.

Anyways, I'm barely awake now, so I'll leave you here.

Good night everybody!

Edit 28/12/13: Forgot to mention, because I've been an unproductive ass this year, I've decided to upload some of my old stuff I either never finished or uploaded for various reasons. I already started doing so, starting with "5 O'Clock Blues", and will go on until I feel like it, so expect a lot of songs!

Hey pals,

I've been hard at work for the past few weeks working with artists on different collaborations coming over the next few weeks, but a persisting collaborator throughout some of these projects hasn't been given the amount of recognition he deserves, so here's my first artist spotlight!

The artist in question is Hans Nieuwenhuijsen, aka hnieuw, who has been consistently creating and recording some amazing tracks which combine interesting classical harmony with a very modern indie rock style, all with a very smooth voice and an incredibly well-polished production. I've worked with him on a couple tracks, and let me tell you that this guy is a very professional and passionate guy, as well as very comprehensive fellow.

Now as of right now, he's only got 39 fans and our most recent collaboration, How High the Moon, has only garnered 64 views and not a single review... Let's see if we can change that!
I highly encourage all of you to check out his stuff, as I find such a low level of attention for so much talent quite disconcerting ; let's try to get his fan count to at least 50!

==================================================

In other news, I'm currently working hard on a LOT of different projects, some which I can speak of, and others that I'm prohibited to, but which I can guarantee will blow your socks off when I'm allowed to share to you guys!

For projects I'm allowed to talk about, I'm currently in the process of creating a song in collaboration with many NG artists, including last year's NGADM winner Kor-Rune, with which I've previously made a few succesful tracks in the past. It's in a style I'm very much not used to writing, Prog-rock infused with Pop and Electro, but I like how it sounds as of right now, and I believe this will become an excellent track once it comes to completion, as I've incorporated a lot of new theoretical elements I've learned such as isometrics and irrational metering!

I've truly learned a lot with this track, as much in terms of theory/production as multi-collaborator planning and organizing, and so I very much hope you guys will like it! Expect it around the start of December.

==================================================

As for non-composition related news, you may recall a few months ago I started a virtual-instrument company with Samulis, and produced the Dan Tranh, a never-before (well-) sampled instrument of Vietnamese origin. The instrument did fairly well in sales, but now I'm working on a few new projects that will surely garner a lot of attention.

First in line is the World Grooves series, in which I will be providing fully-adjustable multi-instrument percussion grooves from around the world. Each of the regions will be separate from the other, but will have the option of being bundled with a rebate, giving the buyer maximum flexibility for his purchase.

The next in line is something I've worked hard on getting my hands on: an extensive collection of incredibly rare and valuable snares, some of which have less than 50 other iterations throughout the world and are worth OVER 10K$! I've had the luck to hear them in person, and they sounds absolutely phenomenal. And so you can understand my excitement when I say I'll have the honor to be the first to sample them!

Other unconfirmed plans include sampling the organ from the Saint-Joseph Oratorio as well as it's carrion, both considered to be some of the largest in the world.

Lastly, I'll also very soon be opening an official recording studio business with my roommate, with is expected to be completed by the end of this month, so expect more news for this within the next few weeks!

==================================================

Anyways, that's it for now; as you can see, I'm getting involved in more things than I can even care to count, but I'm loving all these projects and will try my best to keep you guys updated as much as possible, although I'm really quite bad at doing that, so I'll probably just end up forgetting and doing another massive update like this once in a blue moon. Nonetheless, I'll try my best to at least remember the important parts when I do!

Cheers,
Samuel

Hey peeps,

Just a quick update to let you guys know I'm not dead, but merely being my usual self and being involved in more projects than I can handle! X____X
I've got a lot of good stuff planned, and with my studio nearing completion, I'll be able to produce a recording quality like I've never been capable of doing in the past, so hold on tight!

Also, in case you hadn't already noticed, I finally got myself some custom artwork, made by the legendary Scott Rogers, who was generous enough to offer me this amazing logo for absolutely free! So if you haven't already, go ahead and follow this magnificent beast and/or support him by buying his artwork.

Anyways guys, that's it for now, I still haven't gotten around to making a milestone post because I'm an idiot, but I'll try to fix that soon!

Cheers,
Sam

Hey guys, sorry for not having made an update in a while and completely missing my 100 fans milestone! I'm currently in the middle of a BUNCH of projects, including one I've just completed, and have generally not had my mind into making a celebratory post. I plan to in the near-future though, so keep an eye out for that!

In any case, I didn't make a post solely to explain the lack of update, I've actually got news, and a big one at that! I've in fact been busy in the past months along with Samulis to create a VST of some of the many rare or less-rare instruments I own, the first of which is the Dan Tranh, a vietnamese zither-like instrument. I highly suggest you take a look if you are a composer avid for new sounds, or just curious to try it out, as there is a free version also available.

You can check it out on our website at Versilian Studios.

I'm also sorry for the drought in songs in the past year, I haven't really been as active as I should be considering I do this for a living, but life has a tendency of getting in the way. If everything stays as it is right now and my current project follow through, you should be seeing an increase in uploads, so at least there's that to be awaiting for!

Also, if you haven't already, you should go check out the Detailed Paring List I'm holding for the NGADM, which is still en-lieu.

In any case, that's all for this update, but I'll try to get that milestone update done Soon™.

Cheers,
Sam
